Our foundation is studying how images travel — between East and West, across centuries and borders, tracing
the migration of form

Current events

Every event the foundation holds — an exhibition, a lecture, a publication — starts from the same premise: art doesn’t stay where it began; no work or motif exists inside a single national tradition.
Behind any given occasion is a route — the path an idea, a material, or a technique travelled across cultures and centuries before settling into the form recognised today.

Our mission

Traditional historiography of art is often limited to national schools and chronological periods. With this approach, a key aspect of cultural development—transcultural exchange—remains out of sight.

Culture, represented as a closed fortress, easily becomes an instrument of division. Understanding it as a product of constant contact and dialogue fosters resilience to concepts of cultural exclusivity.
Sheremetev & Partners Foundation promotes the integration of academic knowledge into public discourse to expand international dialogue, promoting a broader view of world heritage.

Publications

What looks ancient — a tradition, a style, a rite —often turns out to be a product synthesised in the modern era. And what’s taken for a national trait often turns out to have been born from close contact between cultures separated by geography, language, and time.
In the foundation’s media, we examine whether a given tradition really is as old or as national as it’s assumed to be — and tell that story in lively, accessible language, grounded in scholarship.
